Child safety

What we will and will not do with a child’s attention.

Discover and MyJessi are used by children. That imposes limits on us that an ordinary website does not have, and we would rather write them down than leave them implied.

We do

Design for a finite visit

  • Discover is a finite edition. It ends. There is no infinite scroll.
  • Every item carries an age band, and is reviewed by an editor before publication.
  • Recommendations optimise for a useful next step, not for time on the page.
  • Sensitive subjects — health, disasters, violence, politics — take a stricter editorial path than evergreen science and nature.

We do not

Build a profile to sell

  • No advertising, and no advertising profile built from a child’s learning behaviour.
  • No sale or rent of learner data, to anyone, for any purpose.
  • No streak mechanics, no notification pressure, no reward loops designed to pull a child back.
  • No precise location, and no tracking a child across other websites.

Who controls the account

A parent or the school, never the child alone.

Set up by an adult

A MyJessi profile for a child is created and controlled by a parent or an authorised school administrator, who decides what is switched on.

Minimum data

Age band rather than date of birth. Capability labels rather than raw history. Only what a recommendation actually needs.

Switched off is the default

Personalised and AI features are opt-in. The books and the resources work without any of it.

If an AI feature is connected

The provider is a processor, not the teacher.

Where a parent or school switches on an AI feature, we send the programme context and a pseudonymous learner reference — not a name, not an identity. A connected provider does not override our child-safety rules, our curriculum grounding or the consent that was given.

We will never ask a child, a parent or a teacher for the password to a consumer AI account.

Report a concern

Tell us and we will act.

If something in Discover, a resource or an AI response seems wrong, unsafe or inappropriate for the age it is labelled, write to us with a link or a screenshot. We take content down first and investigate second.
